puppy picks the underdogs

Well, I’m not sure Vegas (per my mother-in-law’s suggestion) is in the cards for Kona. She didn’t break the .500 mark yesterday, picking just 8 correct winners out of 16 games. In fairness, there were some surprising upsets yesterday, just not the ones she picked.

She must have gotten the memo, though, because she ended up with some pretty interesting predictions (in red) for today’s first-round action.

(15) Morgan State vs. (2) West Virginia

(11) Minnesota vs. (6) Xavier

(12) Cornell vs. (5) Temple

(13) Siena vs. (4) Purdue

(10) Missouri vs. (7) Clemson

(14) Oakland vs. (3) Pittsburgh

(13) Wofford vs. (4) Wisconsin

(12) Utah State vs. (5) Texas A&M

(9) Florida State vs. (8) Gonzaga

(10) Georgia Tech vs. (7) Oklahoma State

(12) New Mexico State vs. (5) Michigan State

(16) Arkansas-Pine Bluff vs. (1) Duke

(16) Vermont vs. (1) Syracuse

(15) UC Santa Barbara vs. (2) Ohio State

(13) Houston vs. (4) Maryland

(9) Louisville vs. (8) California

I’m on board with Siena and Missouri “upsetting” Purdue and Clemson, respectively. But Morgan State, Wofford, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and UC Santa Barbara are particularly risky picks. I’ll admit, I considered switching her prediction of a Duke upset. Not. Gonna. Happen. But I’ll leave everything as is.

It’s not like anything is on the line here. Though she is working on her game. She rolled around her big, orange, food-dispensing ball during dinner last night. I like to think she was imagining herself on the hardwood. Yes, Alex, I did just say that.

Anyway, it’s a great toy that keeps her occupied for more than the usual two minutes it takes her to scarf her food. And, for that, I am grateful.
